Triple Gem = Buddha, Sangha, Dharma (Sangha means ordained community)
Critical time period = parinibbana of Buddha. Meant no longer a leader for guidance and teachings.
Theravada = Ten paramitas: giving, morality, renunciation, wisdom, energy, meditation, truthfulness, determination, loving kindness and equanimity.
Mahayana = Six perfections: giving, morality, patience, energy, meditation and wisdom.
Sanskrit foundations = one is renunciation for the good of all beings.
Cult of Arhats = helped fill the gap left by the Buddha's parinibbana.
Generally 3/4 Stages:
The initial vow (i.e., to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings)
The prediction of a Buddha of Buddhahood (maybe optional)
Following the practice/path - perfections and accumulation of merit and karma
