1) Desire Character (caused by excess phlegm)
- 4 elements equal

- others include: pride, delight in sinful actions, unlimited desires, objective sensuality
2) Hatred Character (caused by excess bile)
- wind, water also in excess
- anger, covetousness, intolerance of others' success
- types of anger compared to various serpents:
a) repeated anger for a short time = quick attack, non-poisonous
b) harmful anger one long time = rare venomous attack
c) repeated and harmful = quick poisonous attacks
3) Deluded Character (caused by excess air)
- earth, fire also in excess
- "a fool, even though he is associated with a wise man all his life, does not understand the Dhamma, just as a spoon does not know the taste of soup."
